Photographs which have one object in colour and the rest of the scene in black & white are becoming quite popular. I thought I’d give it a go and soon found out that whilst the technique was quite simple (actually, this was a very rough and ready job…if you look closely there is still some work to do on removing bits of colour around the vehicle), not every image is suited to this treatment. I took the photo of the crop sprayer below in May this year (and got sprayed myself in the process!).
In my view the removal of all colour in the image, apart from the crop spraying vehicle itself (below) simply does not work. My conclusion is that the technique doesn’t work so well when the object being left coloured is already prominent.in the photograph. I will be experimenting some more, isolating smaller less prominent features of photographs.
